Nevada County Jail Roster

The Nevada County (California) Inmate Roster is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody in the county's correctional facilities. Public information about current and recently released inmates can be found on the NevadaCourt.us website. Additionally, data is available through the official website of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, by phone, or during a personal visit to the facility. The roster is maintained by the Corrections Division of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and is regularly updated to reflect the current custody status. This tool ensures transparency in the criminal justice system and allows citizens to check the status of specific individuals.

Search Current Inmates in Nevada Jail

Nevada County operates two correctional facilities: Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City and Truckee Substation Jail in Truckee. There are several ways to search for inmates.

Online Search

  1. Visit the inmate search page on the official Nevada County website.
  2. Select the facility — Wayne Brown Correctional Facility or Truckee Substation Jail.
  3. View the list of individuals currently in custody. Use the browser's search function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) if needed to find a specific last name.

A search is also available through NevadaCourt.us — a resource for checking publicly available information on court cases and inmates.

To start a search, you will need:

  • The person's full legal name (last name and first name)
  • The booking number, if known

Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public roster.

By Phone

Call the facility directly and provide the name of the person you are looking for. The staff will confirm if they are in custody.

Personal Visit

You can visit the lobby of the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility during business hours.

Find Nevada Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment a detained person undergoes the registration process in a correctional facility. It is the first official document that records the fact of being in custody.

During booking, the following data is generated:

  • A unique booking number
  • Date and time of intake
  • Charges presented
  • Name of the agency that made the arrest
  • Personal data of the detainee (name, date of birth, physical description)

The easiest way to access booking records is through the online inmate roster on the Sheriff's Office website. If the person has already been released and is not in the current roster, you can submit an official public records request. The request form is available on the Nevada County Sheriff's Office website in accordance with the California Public Records Act (Gov't Code Section 6250 et seq.).

Booking records are usually public, but some information may be restricted — for example, medical data or records related to an ongoing investigation.

Search the Nevada Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The Nevada County inmate roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Open the inmate list on the search page and use the browser's search function (Ctrl+F). Enter the last name in Latin characters — exactly as it is recorded in the system. A few tips:

  • Ensure the spelling is correct — even one letter can affect the result
  • Try a shortened version of the last name if the full search yields no results
  • If the last name is common, add the first name to narrow the results

Search by Booking Number

If you know the booking number, enter it in the browser's search field. This is the most accurate method — it will immediately lead you to the desired record without having to browse the entire list.

What to Do If the Search Yields No Results?

  1. Check the spelling of the name.
  2. The person may have already been released — the roster only shows those in custody at the time of viewing.
  3. The detainee may be held in another facility (e.g., in Truckee Substation Jail instead of Wayne Brown).
  4. Call the Corrections Division at 530-265-1218 for clarification.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Nevada

The Nevada County inmate roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but not in real-time. Several hours may pass between the actual booking and the appearance of the record in the online roster — especially on weekends or holidays when administrative workload increases.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Publication delay: a recently arrested person may not yet appear in the list until the booking process is fully completed
  • Disappearance after release: once a person is released (on bail, by court decision, or after serving a sentence), their record is usually removed from the current roster
  • Not an archive: the online roster only reflects individuals currently in custody, not the history of all previous bookings
  • Minors: records of individuals under 18 are not published in any public roster

If you need information about past bookings, submit a public records request in accordance with the California Public Records Act. Wayne Brown Correctional Facility is designed to hold up to 283 inmates, so the volume of daily changes in the roster can be significant. For information on court cases related to an arrest, use the Nevada County Superior Court portal, where searches for criminal and other cases are available.
